Divorce
When either both or you no longer can live with the current scenario that has derived from a downward spiral over the years or have been dealt the shocking realization that your spouse is not devoted to you a choice has to be made. Every divorce case costs money as well as taking an emotional and physical toll on varying levels. My life experience as a child of divorce in addition to handling many divorce cases provides insight to your specific issues and situations which can not be understood by reading an appellate court case or a book on father's rights.
Divorce cases are divided in to two types, with kids or without. The expansion of the divorce laws over the last 20 years are due to an enhanced attempt by the legal system to guard an protect the innocent children of a broken family structure. The norm for a divorce case involves many procedural aspects which are put in place to give the parties a chance to move on with their lives both financially and possibly emotionally. A divorce case is not designed and will never be able to fix a relationship between two people where one of the parties is a self centered (fill in the blank).
Divorce cases which do not involve kids simply are brought down to the level of financial risk taking balanced with the ability of the parties to play the game. I have had cases where the parties have spent many dollars regardless of my and opposing counsel's advice and continued to argue over store purchased VHS tapes as opposed to copies of the same tapes. That type of battle was a reflection of their marriage and they each used the attorneys to continue that flaw in how they approached each other. It is more likely that the parties realize quickly that divorce can be very expensive. It is not common for one party to mop up the other through the divorce if each side has an experienced and aggressive if need be attorney looking out for them.
Divorce cases in which the parents can not decide where the children will reside and make decisions for (joint/sole custody) are forced to deal with a succession of steps (settlement discussions, mediation, child attorney, custody evaluation, and trial) to resolve the issue and each step costing exponentially more than the other. The system is not designed to produce a result without financial aspects.
In either type of case it is my choice to handle cases by providing the client with a balance of economics, legal options and the effects of the multiple combinations of the two.
